The'80s, Remixed

By Tamara Palmer

Published on July 23, 2008

The tongue-in-cheek funksters Chromeo recently released Fancy Footwork: Deluxe Edition, a repackaged and remixed version of last summer's much-buzzed album from the Montreal-based duo. The group sometimes apes the synth-driven R&B sound of the '80s too much, but the catchiness of its melodies on tracks like "You're So Gangsta" or "100%" safeguards against novelty act status. Chromeo's songs still sound fresh a year later on Deluxe Edition, buoyed by new remixes from hot artists like DFA and Playgroup.
