The arena for the skateboard contest Game of Skate starts with a flat, smooth piece of pavement … and stops there. That’s all competitors get. The rules are just as simple: One guy does a trick, and everybody else tries the same trick. Whoever fails gets the letter S. Whoever continues to fail will eventually spell out SKATE, and that means they can go home. It’s like HORSE, the basketball game, only without the ball and without some asshole throwing up no-look hooks from half court. Today’s stop is part of the international Game of Skate tour, which lands in more than 100 cities worldwide, and the winner gets a trip to Orange County to compete in the Amateur World Championships.
